How Does Invisalign Work?

temp-post-image

Invisalign treatment is attractive to many of our patients because it does not use traditional metal brackets and it is difficult to tell that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is often referred to as "clear braces" and consists of a series of clear aligners that you wear over time. The aligners pop onto your teeth and are made of comfortable plastic that does not require any metal wires or brackets.

When you begin treatment, Dr. Jolley will evaluate your teeth and jaw to make sure that you are a candidate for Invisalign. If you are a candidate, he will then fit you for this series of aligners so that each set gradually moves your teeth to their desired locations. Each aligner set is a little different and shifts your teeth. You wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before moving on to your next set until your treatment is complete.

It is important to remove your aligners before you eat or drink anything besides water. You will also need to remove the aligners to brush your teeth, but other than that, it is important to wear your aligners at all times even while you sleep. It is recommended that you wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day for optimal results.
